TIE THE KNOT

I hand modelled the rope and glazed it with an iron oxide and copper mix to get the look of rusty steel cable. The rope sits on a creamy color base. I used to go sailing with my father out of Port Adelaide in South Australia. The yacht marina was in an industrial area with a decrepit slip way. The area was covered in abandoned and rusting cables. So this wall sculpture is a homage to the time I spent together with my father. The knot has been used for centuries to secure sails and hence the name, 'reef knot'.
