Armano's name refers to a state of readiness, to brace, to arm, to cock, to load. He sits on a plinth reminiscent of the circular cartridges on machine guns. I was thinking about a game I used to play as a child when I made it. We had neighbors with an African wood and rock game. It was a cross between checkers and backgammon. The small depressions on the plinth relate to that childhood memory. His slender figure is modelled on a close friend.
