AXIA
Axia is a hand modelled celadon puma attached to a thrown ceramic drinking jug. The ceramic sculpture is based on the anthropomorphic vessels produced in the ancient Persian world. 6" high.
Humans and animals that blend into other objects have been a part of human history in many civilizations. His name is taken from ancient Mesopotamian culture and mythology. He has an antique looking glazed torso with fire marks from the wood kiln. The feline figurine will be a talking point in your living space. Axia is the ideal gift for an cat loving friend.
I designed the sculpture as a representation of the robust drinking animals from ancient Amlash culture. He refers to the pottery produced from the Indus Valley where animals such as cattle and deer were modelled onto drinking jars. Usually made in terracotta, this particular vessel is a robust, high fired stoneware. Sit him on your bookshelf or your coffee table as a talking point. The sculpture is a uniquely modelled, quirky work of art. Axia was part of a three day wood firing. He was placed deep inside the fire box of the bourry box kiln. The copper glaze has fired with black carbonization fire marks showing on the base.
Something truly special and a unique piece of art!
