VENIAL SIN
I designed and made Venial Sin, a stylish deep crimson pink and gold painting with an antique surface finish. It has a twisting rose vine covered in Dutch gold leaf. The piece was inspired by the luxuriant foliage found in the wallpapers designed by William Morris from the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1870's. 11.5 inches high.
The artists and designers in the Arts and Crafts movement embraced the romance of the handmade and were decidedly anti-industrial. Morris's great friend and painter, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, often depicted lovers embracing. Venial Sin is a symbolic representation of lust. As a lesser sin, this painting depicts lust as a carnal pink twisted in the fecundity of a rose vine.
The colorful palette and romantic design is perfect to add ambience and layering to a neutral room. Get a dramatic look and an atmospheric highlight.
