CANTICLE
This mixed media sculpture is made of ceramic and found wood and metal and makes a quirky, industrial look art installation. There are two ceramic heads joined to the torso. The larger one is a stylized rhinoceros and the smaller one behind is a man's head. The base is found timber which looks like a groin and legs. A twisted rusty metal loop hangs like a necklace. It can hang on the wall or be displayed on a shelf or table. 14.5 inches high.
The idea behind the art work is from a book called The Canticle for Leibowitz. A character in the dystopian world has a conjoined twin head called Rachel who has a pivotal role within the novel. I have used elements of the everyday discarded and found objects. I manipulate then reassemble them in a new context. The old and the familiar become new sculptural artifacts.
The various textures and shapes of this sculpture gives interest and layering to a neutral space. This sculpture will be a great talking point in your living room or office space as part of your contemporary art gallery.
